Mariko Paterson, Forage Studios

“4-Color Decal Creativity”
Friday, March 19 at 10 a.m. ET

Mariko Paterson is an artist who hails from Vancouver and has traveled the world. She now makes Halifax, Nova Scotia the location of her small, but mighty ceramic headquarters called Forage Studios.

Forage Studios presents a ceramic style not intended for the faint of heart. Historical interests and a love of illustration and design mix and mingle with both thrown and handbuilding techniques to produce both functional and sculptural works. Each piece is fired multiple times to build up dizzyingly rich layers of glaze, china paints, and gold luster. Fired ceramic decals figure prominently in many of her pieces adding an extra layer of depth to surfaces already swimming with information and aesthetic wonder.
